Hello and welcome to The Lizards Club here at The Leeds Wall.  The Club runs after school and on the weekends.  Members are aged 6 to 17 and of all abilities.  It's a great way to experience climbing in a safe environment.

The Club is split in to age/ability groups; Geckos, Chameleons and Dragons with each group being progressively older and more experienced.  Sessions are 1.5 hours in duration and are booked each half term throughout the year.  Children are offered recognition of their progress with the National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme (NICAS).

Once children reach the age of 14 they can learn to lead climb and work towards taking the Junior Assessment.  This allows them, with parental consent to come and climb at the centre outside of the supervised sessions.  They may still attend the Leeds Wall Climbing Club on a weekend when an instructor is on hand to give them coaching.

Duration
The Lizard Intro course is 3 hours with a break for refreshments.  Club sessions are then 1.5 hours.  Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your start time.  The safety briefing and harnessing is included within the time allocated.

6 years old (all participants will need to complete a consent form, under 18's will need this to be done by a Parents/Guardian).

Dress code
Please wear clothes that allow easy movement, such as tracksuit or leggings.  The temperature can vary so please bring warm clothes.  Wear snug fitting velcro or lace up trainers rather than slip on shoes.  Finally please remove all jewellery and items from your pockets.

Equipment
All equipment and instruction is included in the price.

Spectators
Spectators are welcome and can watch from our viewing area.  Our cafe is open on evenings and weekends and there are vending machines for refreshments.  Please note self catering for groups and birthday parties is not allowed on site.  Remember your camera for some great photos.

Outdoor sessions

The Outdoor Climbing Club builds on the hugely popular Lizards Club.  It tends to show participants the joys of climbing on the real stuff.  This year we will be using a wide variety of venues throughout Yorkshire and the Peak District.

Lizards T-shirts
These are now available in red, blue and pink from The Leeds Wall Shop.  T-shirts are £10.

Youth Climbing Club
As a member your children can join the Youth Climbing Club (Youth CC) aimed at children coming down with their parents inbetween the Lizards sessions.  The Youth CC is £35 annually.  Members get the benefits of reduced entry price, shop discount & the options to join the Youth CC nights when a coach is available.  For further information please ask at reception.

Lizard Parents Climb for Free
If you are a Lizard parent who would also like to climb or would like to bring the children down for more climbing then we can offer you a Belay Course.  The Belay Course teaches the basics so that parents can become a member of the Leeds Wall.  As a member you can then bring the children in more often and you can climb for free while the children are on a Lizards Session.  Please ask at reception or leave your details for us to arrange your course.

The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) participation statement must be understood and accepted by all climbers / users of the wall, before signing the consent form:

‘the bmc recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be respoNsible for their own actions and involvement’

Instructed Sessions

Non members must register with the centre on every visit and be under constant supervision by an approved instructor, or competent adult. You are warned that climbing beyond your capabilities or using equipment incorrectly may result in personal injury. Bouldering is an activity in which one is very likely to fall and even with the matting provided very serious injury can occur. All accidents must be reported to a member of staff immediately.

Supervision

Please note that the children will be under The Leeds Wall supervision when the Instructor takes the group from the accompanying adults until the end of the climbing session. Before and after climbing the children will be under the supervision of the accompanying adults. No children should be left unaccompanied at any time and must not enter the climbing area.

Anti-Social Behaviour

The Leeds Wall reserves the right to refuse entry or to ask people to leave the premises. We operate a zero tolerance policy to anti-social behaviour. The Leeds Wall reserves the right to stop individuals climbing if their behaviour or practice is considered unsafe to themselves or others.

Vouchers

Once your session is booked the cancellation policy will apply to the value of your voucher. Please note the voucher must be presented on the day of the session or a charge may apply. If lost, we regret that Vouchers cannot be replaced.

If you need to cancel or change your booking

You should contact us immediately if you need to amend or cancel your booking. If someone cannot attend you are welcome to bring another person in their place. There are no refunds for people who do not attend. Moving dates/times once paid is classed as cancellation of the original session followed by a rebooking. If you need to cancel your session because of injury/illness to yourself, you should contact the Duty Manager as it may be possible to re-arrange your session.

To cancel with 14+ days notice: refund less than 10% of the total price.
To cancel with 8 to 14 days notice: 50% refund
To cancel with up to 7 days notice: No refund

If we cancel or change your booking

If we have not received the full payment for your booking 2 weeks beforehand, we reserve the right to cancel your booking. If we cancel your booking, we will tell you as soon as possible, and do our very best to arrange an alternative date. On preset sessions we reserve the right to reschedule owing to insufficient numbers, and other factors beyond our control. We will endeavour to offer a suitable alternative, however, if not we will refund you in full.

In case of problems

In case of a problem, please speak to your Instructor or Duty Manager on the day, so that they have an opportunity to resolve any issues there and then.

To join the club you need to attend the Lizard Intro where our instructors will introduce the basic climbing skills and safety information for the centre.  At the end of the course children are allocated to a group and registered.  You can then start to attend straight away knowing what to expect*. 

You can also do the Holiday Climbing Camp which includes climbing games and get Lizards Club membership at the same time!
