Beginners Climbing Course

The Beginners Course is a 3 week comprehensive introduction to indoor climbing. After a tour of the Centre you will learn about basic climbing techniques, equipment, top rope climbing and bouldering. It is also a great way to meet new friends.
Suitable for adults who would like to learn the basics of indoor climbing. At the end of the course you can become a member of The Leeds Wall enabling you to climb unsupervised and bring in up to 2 guests. Minimum age 18 years old. If you are just looking to refresh skills then a Belay Course may be more suitable.
Duration
3 x 2 hour sessions over 3 weeks. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your start time. The safety briefing and harnessing is included within the time allocated.

18 years old (all participants will need to complete a consent form).

Dress code
Please wear clothes that allow easy movement, such as tracksuit or leggings. The temperature can vary so please bring warm clothes. Wear snug fitting velcro or lace up trainers rather than slip on shoes. Finally please remove all jewellery and items from your pockets.
Equipment
All equipment and instruction is included in the price. We also offer you a discount voucher so that you can build up your own kit after the course.
Instructors
Fully qualified instructors, trained to the highest standard, run all courses and activities. Whatever your ability we aim to offer you the opportunity to experience a new challenge.
Spectators
Spectators are welcome and can watch from our viewing area. Our cafe is open on evenings and weekends and there are vending machines for refreshments. Remember your camera for some great photos.

Beginners Courses start the first week of every month. You then attend 7-9pm on the same evening each week

Alternative options
If you are unable to attend all 3 weeks on the same evening you may find a Belay Course more suitable as times are flexible. Contact us to arrange dates to suit your group, 2 people required.

The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) participation statement must be understood and accepted by all climbers / users of the wall, before signing the consent form:
‘the bmc recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be respoNsible for their own actions and involvement’
Instructed Sessions
Non members must register with the centre on every visit and be under constant supervision by an approved instructor, or competent adult. You are warned that climbing beyond your capabilities or using equipment incorrectly may result in personal injury. Bouldering is an activity in which one is very likely to fall and even with the matting provided very serious injury can occur. All accidents must be reported to a member of staff immediately.
Supervision
Please note that the children will be under The Leeds Wall supervision when the Instructor takes the group from the accompanying adults until the end of the climbing session. Before and after climbing the children will be under the supervision of the accompanying adults. No children should be left unaccompanied at any time and must not enter the climbing area.
Anti-Social Behaviour
The Leeds Wall reserves the right to refuse entry or to ask people to leave the premises. We operate a zero tolerance policy to anti-social behaviour. The Leeds Wall reserves the right to stop individuals climbing if their behaviour or practice is considered unsafe to themselves or others.
Vouchers
Once your session is booked the cancellation policy will apply to the value of your voucher. Please note the voucher must be presented on the day of the session or a charge may apply. If lost, we regret that Vouchers cannot be replaced.
If you need to cancel or change your booking
You should contact us immediately if you need to amend or cancel your booking. If someone cannot attend you are welcome to bring another person in their place. There are no refunds for people who do not attend. Moving dates/times once paid is classed as cancellation of the original session followed by a rebooking. If you need to cancel your session because of injury/illness to yourself, you should contact the Duty Manager as it may be possible to re-arrange your session.
To cancel with 14+ days notice: refund less than 10% of the total price.
To cancel with 8 to 14 days notice: 50% refund
To cancel with up to 7 days notice: No refund
If we cancel or change your booking
If we have not received the full payment for your booking 2 weeks beforehand, we reserve the right to cancel your booking. If we cancel your booking, we will tell you as soon as possible, and do our very best to arrange an alternative date. On preset sessions we reserve the right to reschedule owing to insufficient numbers, and other factors beyond our control. We will endeavour to offer a suitable alternative, however, if not we will refund you in full.
In case of problems
In case of a problem, please speak to your Instructor or Duty Manager on the day, so that they have an opportunity to resolve any issues there and then.
