We can offer your pupils the opportunity to challenge themselves in a controlled environment. Whether it’s a fun session for your class or something that is part of a more structured programme we will be able to cater for your school group. We are experienced in working with the NICAS, GCSE & Duke of Edinburgh syllabi. Just let us know when you book what type of session you require.
These can be booked as a one off taster, as an exciting reward or as a block of fun sessions. The sessions involve a warm up through climbing games for younger children that encourage balance and coordination or a more structured warm up involving stretches and simple conditioning for older children, health and fitness permitting. The majority of the fun session would be spent attempting the wall routes with the groups working together supporting and belaying for each other whilst being supervised by our instructors.
Structured courses are run by our highly experienced instructors for a minimum of four weeks. Courses are often linked to National Curriculum, Duke of Edinburgh, GNVQ or Youth Award Scheme requirements. Schools often decide to participate in the National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme, NICAS.
The courses provide a solid foundation in climbing safety and essential rope techniques whilst building confidence, trust and teamwork. On any course the same instructor(s) will be present on each session to help build a rappor with the students.
All our instructors are friendly and approachable and are highly experienced at working with young people of all abilities. All are fully qualified climbing instructors as recommended by the Mountain Leader Training Boards and Association of British Climbing Walls and are First Aid Trained.
The instructors are also put through a thorough induction programme before working for The Leeds Wall and are vetted through the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). The Leeds Wall child protection policy is available on request.
Standard School Sessions

What are the long term options for our students?
Children and young people that have attended a single climbing session are welcome to visit the wall over the school breaks, where we offer Holiday Climbing Club sessions at the centre and out on the crag.
Children and young adults under 17 that have received 4 or more hours of tuition are given the opportunity to join the Lizards Club that meet every weekend. For those between the ages of 14 to 18 who have received a minimum of 12 climbing sessions under instruction there is the opportunity to undertake a competence assessment allowing them if successful to become junior members and climb unsupervised at the centre.
For our regularly visiting schools we host an annual Inter- Schools Climbing Competition. The competition is a great opportunity for your pupils to meet other young climbers and take part in a fun competition while representing their school. The competition normally includes 12 – 15 schools from the Yorkshire area.
Discounts are available to teachers who bring groups to the centre, whether visiting with a group or making a personal visits to climb.
External Groups providing their own instructor with prior arrangement can receive a loyalty discount for visiting regularly.
Visiting Groups with their own instructors can hire their equipment: £2 per group member (harness, shoes, helmet, belay device).
